About the Tari Project

The Tari project has gradually evolved from the Monero ecosystem into a new public blockchain protocol. Tari is a dual-layer blockchain with privacy as its core principle, combining the Proof-of-Work (PoW) security of the Minotari base layer with the programmability of digital assets on its second layer.

This architecture aims to systematically address the fundamental trade-offs among scalability, security, and decentralization in traditional blockchains, while providing dedicated infrastructure for creation, trading, and management of next-generation digital assets such as NFTs, in-game items, loyalty points, and ticketing.

Key Features of Tari

• Unique Four-Algorithm Mining Mechanism

Tari introduced an innovative four-algorithm mining mechanism. This approach preserves the decentralization benefits of PoW while simultaneously drawing participation from the Monero network and general-purpose mining communities, expanding its user base.

• Atomic Swap Between XMR and XTM

Tari is not just another “copycat” public chain. Its co-founders, Riccardo Spagni (former lead maintainer of Monero) and Naveen Jain, embedded strong privacy technology genes into the project. One of Tari’s design goals is to allow digital assets (for example, a unique sword in a game) to be exchanged directly with Monero (XMR) through trustless, third-party-free atomic swaps. In this vision, XTM is not merely a “bridge token” like USDT on exchanges. Instead, XTM and XMR are native assets on two distinct blockchains that can be directly swapped through technical means.

• Scalable Architecture

Tari is among the few blockchain protocols worldwide that combine top-tier privacy features with high-performance Layer 2 scalability. Its “Privacy-first L1 + Scalable L2” architecture provides a one-stop platform for privacy-focused Web3 application development and operations. Tari not only inherits Monero’s security and privacy DNA but also innovates through its dual-token economic model and layered design.
